loving the body

This week, I got to see a real example of genuine love for the body. I was touched as I watched a brother intercede for his sister in Christ. It was both an encouragement and a jolting reminder to keep the raised banner of Jesus a priority. The mission He has called us to is of greater importance than our reputations. And it should always trump minor tiffs and disagreements within the believing community.

Because the church & the people of God are His primary plan for the world to hear of the saving power of His Son, we must constantly remind ourselves of our purpose and our place. When I forget about my membership and role in the body, I am quick to worry, step into gossip, and forget that the world is looking to these relationships as a picture of Christ's love.

Lord, I acknowledge that any attitude other than yours within the body is tragic. Give us grace to lay ourselves down and learn to wash the feet of your people.
