Yet to Come

"The best is yet to come."

The above six words, so frequently spoken by someone whom I deeply admire, ring true in the lives of those who call on Jesus and place their hope in His death and resurrection.
And I never noticed the reality of them until today.

"Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rives in the desert. The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise." -Isaiah 43:18-19

1. Jesus = best.
Under the law, it was impossible for man to live a life completely pleasing to God. We all fall short. If not in our actions, definitely in our thoughts. Ephesians 2:3 says that we are "children of wrath." To have to live up to a perfect law under the authority of a perfect God must have been quite a challenge.

2. God's plans are for good.
Later in Isaiah, God tells us that He loves us. God loves us. What? When was the last time you wished something bad for someone you loved? If God has the world in His hands (Job 12:10), and He loves us (Isaiah 43:4 and many others), we can rest assured that He will not harm us, but will only work in our lives for good. Is that "good" the "good" we usually have in mind? Probably not. But we must not forget that we are mere humans in the hands of a sovereign, almighty God.

3. We have eternity in heaven promised.
John 11:25-26 says,"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die."

Before Jesus, the best was yet to come.
Now, the best is yet to come.
Tomorrow, the best is yet to come.
With God, the best is yet to come. Always.
