Howdie!!
This past week has been fantastic! I am loving my job--getting to know lots of coworkers and just have a blast working with them. Friday I worked my first "graveyard shift" and it was a lot of fun. The atmosphere is much more playful at night especially on Fridays because they have free concerts at the Boardwalk.
Last Wednesday morning, fifteen of us got up at 7 to take sausage biscuits to the hispanics that stand outside at ProBuild awaiting work. (On a side-note, we did about 18 u-turns on the way there because none of us could understand Melissa's phone. Good times.) It absolutely broke my heart. I spoke with an older man who had not seen his family in 13 years because he left them in Mexico to come work here so he could support them. He even pulled pictures of his children out of his wallet for us to see them. I cannot imagine. I think my favorite moment on project so far was him holding my hand tight while Zack, Breanna and I prayed for him and his family.
Wednesday night, we had Women's Night. It was fun getting to dress up and eat a fancy meal with all the girls here. We played a few games, took lots of pictures, sang songs and listened to a speaker.
This whole week was great, but last night was THE best. We hosted our first theme party for our coworkers-a Barn Party! I was blown away by the turnout. We've only been working for two weeks and I would estimate we easily had over 50 coworkers show up. There was tons of barbeque, corn hole, line dancing, s'mores and laughing. A pie eating contest too! Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. I know it was the most fun I have had in a long time. The students that stepped up and led the organizing really did a fantastic job as everything ran super smoothly. I cannot wait for committee meeting tonight so we can start planning the next event.
It is really awesome to see God answering our prayers, and using us to make His name known here in Santa Cruz. Please continue to pray with us that we would be a unified body, representing Christ well and boldly bringing His love and Good News to the people He puts in our path!
I cannot believe I have been here for almost a month now! I'll see you all back home before we know it!
