Noise

I wonder what our adjustment to heaven is going be like. Going from a world where a million things are vying for our attention to seeing, hearing and feeling only God in all His glory is going to be quite a change.

Right now, it's a fight everyday to simply remember that the God who designed the universe holds us in His hands.

Not too long ago, I found myself exhausted and anxious. I had not talked to my earthly dad in a while so I gave him a call while walking back to my dorm. After about a minute of conversation, a boisterous gang of college students had surrounded me in a hurry to get who-knows-where. Pressing the phone against my ear in an attempt to drown out the students' chatter and simultaneously trying to cross the street frustrated me to the point of tears. As I choked back tears, I had a single though. "I can't hear my dad."

That's when I realized that I was overwhelmed by the noisiness of life and frustrated because it was drowning out my Dad.

Some days, I feel like I am barely keeping my head above water. It feels like I am constantly losing ground trying to keep up with the throngs of people who are running full-force towards...I don't even know where they are going. But I do know that there is always somebody that is running faster and going farther.

Well, one day, my electronics teacher gave me an idea: I need a filter. (Ironically, we were studying noise.)

Electronic filters are used to remove unwanted noise from a signal. Check out the Wikipedia page. Click Here. There are several different kinds. Some remove frequencies that are high so that lower ones can be analyzed. Others do the opposite.Others are fancier and remove both high and low frequencies.

Colossians 3:2 tells us to keep our minds on things above. Hebrews 12:1-2 challenges us to run a different race.

"Therefore let us also...lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith..."

Filtering out everything the world is screaming at us is difficult & probably impossible. What if all noise was attenuated except for the signal sent by our loving, heavenly Father? Friends, that day is coming, and what a relief it will be.
